Homemade Paneer

Home made Paneer

If you have ever found yourself in the need of paneer but couldn't find it in a store near you then here is  the simple and easy solution for you-homemade paneer.Making paneer at home is extremely easy and satisfying.Especially for giving to children.
Ingredients

  • Milk - 1 litre
  • curd - 1/2 cup or Lemon juice - 3 to 4 tbspn

Method

  • Boil milk in a deep pot.
  • When it starts to boil reduce flame to low.Add curd gradually, and stir gently.
  • Milk will start to curdle and milk solid would separate from the liquid.
  • Turn off flame and take it away from stove.
  • Place clean cheese cloth over strainer in another big vessel and pour curdled milk into it to remove whey(liquid portion).
  • Make a knot to the cheese cloth, squeeze any excess water and hang it for 30 mins to remove  excess whey.
  • Keep the paneer on the plate, place a heavy object over the paneer (i have used my stone mortor),Keep it for 45-50 min.
  • Remove the heavy object.
  • Open the tied cheese cloth and you will see a large round shaped paneer slab is ready.
  • Cut it into your desired shape and use it to prepare curry from it.You can store it in airtight container for 3-4 days in refrigerator or store for a month in freezer.
Note

  • Add salt or sugar to the milk before adding curd or lime juice to get your desired taste.
  • if using curd to curdle the milk, use room temperature curd as cold curd might take a longer time to curdle and it might not curdle properly.
  • if lemon is used then we need to rinse under running water to remove the smell of lemon.
